The 1st Battalion of the Mercian Regiment (Cheshire) has recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
The Homecoming March, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Phil Kimber MBE comprised approximately 200 personnel, including a number from Stockport and the Band of The Royal Logistic Corps.The Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Chris Murphy, said: “Thursday June 13th will be a very proud day for Stockport and its citizens. We are honoured that the Mercian Regiment, which has long standing and historic links to the borough of Stockport, has agreed to parade through the town. The men and women of the 1st Battalion have recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. I encourage everyone to come along and show their appreciation of the huge contribution made to our country by the Mercian Regiment.”

Country and Western has always been a favourite of Belle Cannon.
She grew up in a very musical Irish American family so Country Music was always being played. Raised in London she listened to the likes of Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson and Hank Williams so it’s just been a part of the fabric of her life.
In August 2010 her debut album REWIND was recorded in Nashville on Independent label BelleJar Records.
The album is a country-pop affair containing elements of Bluegrass and BelleJar Records recruited some A-List Nashville players: Brent Mason (guitar), Gordon Mote (piano), Larry Franklin (fiddle) and Bryan Sutton (guitar).
Belle has written ten of the twelve songs herself, one exception being a cover of a Johnson Mountain Boys song.
Belle was one of 5 finalists for the UKCountryRadio.com Listeners’ Club Award with her nominated song “That Thing You Do” – More Here.
Belle’s song ‘Party‘ has topped the ECMA Country Music National Charts in France.
