The Fourmost appeared at the Grand Burstin Hotel, Folkstone Friday 11th Jan along with many great names from the best era of music.

Marmalade, Dave Berry, Edison Lighthouse and The Dreamers to name but a few.

The Fourmost achieved fame under the management wing of Brian Epstein and had already been part of the boom of Beat music in Liverpool, having played the famous Cavern Club in 1961, long before the Beatles made their debut.

After being auditioned by George Martin, they were signed to Parlophone Records, the same label as the Beatles.

Originally known as the Blue Jays, then the Four Jays and then the Four Mosts, the band comprised: Brian OHara – lead guitar/vocals. Mike Millward – rhythm guitar/vocals. Billy Hatton – bass guitar/vocals. Dave Lovelady – drums.

Two commercial Lennon/McCartney songs, Hello Little Girl and In Love served as their initial A – sides but the chirpy Little Lovin became the band’s biggest hit on reaching No.6 in April 1964. They were featured in the film Ferry cross The Mersey which consolidated their position as one of the leading Liverpool groups.

The Fourmost’s later releases veered from Tamla Motown with an excellent version of the Four Tops Baby I Need Your Lovin to the Music hall humour of George Formby (Aunt Maggie’s Remedy).

Brian OHara continued the name along with Billy Haiseman, until the early 80′s before retiring from performing and moving on to become a second-hand car dealer. On Brian’s departure, Bill took over the reins and after various members, the current line-up is as follows:

Bill Haiseman ” bass guitar/vocals Kevin Clarkson “ drums/vocals Berny Crossley “ lead guitar/vocals Alex Leyland “ rhythm guitar/vocals.

The Fourmost are one of the better outfits to come from the Merseybeat era. Their vocal prowess is powerful and their instrumental delivery crisp and punchy. During the last two years the band have toured extensively all over the world, as well as appearing in top venues all over the UK.
